Ever since I was a kid I have always been influenced by music. From Earth
Wind and Fire to Pink Floyd to my first Hip-Hop tapes by Run DMC and The
Beastie Boys when I was 6 years old. I’ve always wanted to partake
and be a part of something important and not just a bystander. I am influenced
by many different genres and I think that shows in my mixes and in my
own personal tracks. I was 13 years old when I first heard a DJ mix tape.
My cousin had a couple of mix tapes and she was going to parties and dropped
a DJ Dan mix tape and a Simon mix tape on me. When I first heard them
I was blown away. It was like nothing I had ever heard before, but everything
I wanted to hear. The sound could take you anywhere and show you anything.
It could also make you get down and feel like getting loose on the dance
floor. That is what started it for me, and that how I still feel to this
day. I want people to feel the same way I do, so I try to take them there
when I play or produce. I think the best DJs are the ones that can do
this and the crowd still wants more. I try to incorporate this in the
music that the Phunk Addicts produce. That’s what it’s all
about. It’s all about the music! Like Champ said “I have never
been into DJing for money and nor will I ever be.” That’s
the truth. Corporate people have yet to grasp this. That’s why this
scene will never die. I started playing records a year or two after going
to parties and seeing these incredible DJs. It was a huge influence on
me watching those DJ’s command a crowd. Champ influenced me to start
collecting and playing records. He showed me some tricks and there I went.
I have played about 15 – 20 parties since I started and now my main
focus in music production, but I’ll never stop playing records.
That’s just who I am. So be on the lookout for the up and coming
